MONTSAME National News Agency in cooperation with the Mongolian National Modern Art Gallery is presenting a series of Mongolian fine art masterpieces. This time, we are presenting the artwork,

‘Steel Stirrup’ by State Prize Laureate and State Honored Cultural Figure D.Amgalan.

This realistic artwork, also expression of symbolism originated from Mongolian national patterns was drawn for the 60th anniversary of the October Revolution. In the midst of the plains covered by snow, a line of military men stands next to their horses. The swirling emotions of the olds as well as their wives and children and the cool color palette portray the time of the impending conflict.

However, the focal point of the painting where milk is splashed onto the stirrups, which symbolize the unity and rigorous courage of the people and the soldiers is what catches the most attention. On the other hand, this was done so that the artwork would depict that the victory of the Mongolian Revolution happened on steel stirrups under the “sun” of the October Revolution.

D.Amgalan created several artworks that uses Mongolian patterns, in particular unique way of color combination and composition of applique works. Those include the series: ‘Foretelling’, ‘Blessing’ and ‘Faith’, as well as ‘Steel Stirrups’. On February 8, 2016, the School of Fine Arts and Design at the Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture was named after State Prize Laureate and State Honored Cultural Figure D.Amgalan.
