National forum on accountable artisanal mining takes place

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, Mineral Resources Authority of Mongolia and ‘Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project’ of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation jointly organized a national forum ‘Together for accountable artisanal mining’ on December 7.
The forum aimed at giving a clear understanding about implementation of regulations and rules on artisanal mining to administrations of aimags and soums and heads of self-governance organizations and representatives of artisanal miners.
At the forum, the participants discussed issues, including realization of the regulations, elimination of illegal mining, possibilities to shifting artisanal miners into difference jobs as well as others.
The forum brought together over 250 participants, including officials from the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Ministry of Health, the Bank of Mongolia, National Police Agency, officials of aimags and soums where artisanal mines are operating, international organizations, businesses as well as artisanal miners.
