Mining Minister requests WB to keep cooperation in resolving water issue

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ Mining and Heavy Industry Minister D.Sumiyabazar met with World Bank Country Manager James Anderson on December 12.

In the beginning, the Minister thanked the WB for its valuable contribution to the development of many sectors such as mining, energy, health and education.

During the meeting, the Minister stressed that the water issue should be resolved firsthand in order to forward mega mining projects and establish infrastructure and processing industry for mining products. He requested the World Bank to keep its collaboration in resolving this issue.

James Anderson briefly introduced WB’s projects and programs that were implemented in Mongolia over the past 26 years since Mongolia became a member country of the World Bank.

He also reported that public discussions were organized in some regions of Russia within the scope of its water diversion project ‘Flow regulation of the Orkhon River and Construction of Reservoir Complex’.
