Mayor meets Asia Foundation’s new Country Representative

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The capital city administration and the Asia Foundation expressed mutual readiness for close cooperation during Mayor S.Batbold’s January 16 meeting with the Foundation’s newly appointed Country Representative for Mongolia Mark Koenig.

The capital city has been working with the Asia Foundation since 2012 on a number of projects including Women’s Business Center, Urban Governance, Waste and Climate Change and Strengthening Democratic Participation and Transparency in Public Sector. Mayor S.Batbold expressed the capital city administration’s interest to build on the outcome of these governance projects to expand bilateral cooperation.

The two sides also actively cooperate within the Northeast Asian Mayor's Forum, hosted by Ulaanbaatar, which was on agenda of this meeting.

Resident Representative Mark Koenig expressed his delight at being appointed to the post. At the moment, the Asia Foundation is implementing two projects in cooperation with the Mayor’s Office.

The Urban Governance Project, financially backed by the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development, has conducted trainings involving over 3,000 public servants.

Secondly, the Women’s Business Center was opened in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar to provide assistance to women entrepreneurs. In the last two years, the center has served more than 4,000 women.
