Uvurkhangai /MONTSAME/ Cultivators of Arvaikheer and Taragt soums of Uvurkhangai aimag are learning from Japan technology to grow bulb onion from seed within a year.

They are having the training for the second year and this time advisor for Vegetable Farming Technology of Takikawa city Takaya Fujio and Project Manager Egami Mitsuaki gave theoretical and practical lessons on onion seed planting on March 17-18.

Farmers of the aimag provide five percent of the onion need of the province and the rest is supplied from other national farmers of the country and foreign imports. The import of onion is expected to be decreased as a result of introducing the fast cultivation.

Uvurkhangai aimag has been cooperating with Takikawa International Exchange Association since 2011 and for eight years has implemented a project to grow rice in green house.

Furthermore, Agro Business Development Project targeted to increase farmers income is being implemented in Arvaikheer, Tugrug and Taragt soums with funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with aims to raise farmers income through development of bulb onion plantation, greenhouse farm and tree planting.
