Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ An Honored Athlete of Mongolia B.Gangaamaa will fly to Pakistan to climb the K2 Mountain tomorrow, on June 14. She will start her climb on June 18 and spend two months, returning home on August 18.

K2 located at 8611 meters above sea level is the highest point of Karakoram range, Pakistan. It is the second highest mountain in the world, after Mount Everest.

Over 300 alpinists have reached its peak before. In 2013, B.Gangaamaa made her first climb to K2, but failed to reach the peak due to snow falls. Some of her fellow alpinists lost their lives and the team stopped the climb at 7000 meter. Afterwards, alpinist G.Usukhbayar climbed the K2 in 2017, but also didn’t reach the peak. B.Gangaamaa’s climb will be the third attempt from Mongolia.

There are 5,6 routes in K2 and the Russian alpinists climbed via three routes, naming them 5b, 6a and 6b. Gangaamaa will climb via 5b route, through which she and G.Usukhbayar climbed before. She will climb along with 14 alpinists this time.

“Mongolian alpinist should be recorded in the mountaineering history of the world. My first attempt was imaginary and full of fear, but this time I have well prepared and trained psychologically and physically based on my previous experience,” said Gangaamaa.

Member of the Board of Directors of the Mongolian National Climbing Federation A.Batsukh expressed his sincere wish for this attempt to be successful.

Gangaamaa expressed her gratitude to the sponsor companies and other organizations for their support. Her total budget is USD 35 thousand and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and the Physical Culture and Sports Authority pledged to provide certain amount of the funding.
