Regional environmental sustainable transport forum kicks off in Ulaanbaatar

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ The Eleventh Intergovernmental Regional Environmentally Sustainable Transport (EST) Forum kicked off today at Shangri-La Hotel of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.


Themed ‘Sustainable urban design and development-Role of EST’, the forum is being attended by 142 participants from 24 Asian countries, focusing on how to effectively implement optimal ways and policies to overcome socio-economic and environmental challenges that cities are facing due to fast-paced population growth, unorganized urbanization, underdeveloped infrastructure and basic urban services.


Moreover, it becomes a platform for Asian countries to discuss pressing issues and ways of solving their problems, share experiences and expand cooperation and relations.


The forum running on October 2-5 is being co-organized by the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development, the Ministry of Road and Transport Development, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and Municipality of Ulaanbaatar of Mongolia; Ministry of the Environment of the Government of Japan (MOE-Japan); the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP); and the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) of the Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG)/UN DESA under the overall theme of ‘ Sustainable Urban Design and Development ~ Role of EST ‘.
