UN to give technical assistance in SMS platform for weather information
SocietyUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Deputy Chief of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), colonel B.Uuganbayar received representatives led by Senior Programme & Policy Advisor for Asia & the Pacific at United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) Simon Hollema.
During the meeting, the representatives introduced that WHO is working to implement a project on giving technical assistance to the SMS system that informs herders about severe weather conditions, such as dzud, in aims of enhancing the herders’ disaster tolerance.
Co-implemented by NEMA and Mercy Corps, the goals of the project, ‘Leveraging Tradition and Science in Disaster Risk Reduction in Mongolia-2’ are to further develop the SMS system, improve usage of the service and create a disaster prevention system.
