Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The monumental “Gate of Mongolia” sculpture and prototype, created by French artist Mickaël Obrenovitch, can be seen on display at the MN17 Art Gallery of MN Tower in Ulaanbaatar between August 10 and September 10, 2020.

It will be open to the public and is part of this year’s Art Fair curated by Mrs. Uchral Boldbaatar. The exhibition will contain a selection of both upcoming and experienced artists where visitors will be exposed to various perspectives of art.

The Gate of Mongolia is part of Obrenovitch’s worldwide project entitled ‘Gates of the World’, created in 2016. The concept is a network of gates spread across the globe, which act as ‘open doors’ and initiate a conversation between people from different political and religious backgrounds, as well as cultures. A single gate designed per country of the same circular proportion is inspired and engraved by traditional patterns. The project symbolizes connectivity and harmony among cultures.

Mickaël Obrenovitch is a contemporary artist, born in 1979 on the French Riviera in France. His works and collections are exhibited in museums, at international events, renowned galleries and luxury hotels. His artistic approach is intimately linked to «universalism, organic» and the «humanistic» movement thanks to his passion for shapes, matter and interdisciplinary projects. He hopes to share his personal vision of the meaning of life, his quest for the absolute, and his place in the infinite.

The Gate of Mongolia was designed in collaboration with Mr. Bayarsaikhan Jamsranjav, Head of the National Museum of Mongolia’s research center. The design is inspired by the toono pattern and in particular from Mongolian artist, the master of folk painting, Mr. Manibadar Dolgor.

The prototype is 1-meter diameter, produced with a talented local carpenter, Mr. Magvan Enkhbayar, from Murun city of Khuvsgul aimag. The final sculpture will be 4-meter diameter and launched in Ulaanbaatar in accordance with the local authorization and in a place appointed by the city hall authorities.

The purpose of this prototype is to promote the Gate of Mongolia to the public. The sculpture is available for purchase and the income will cover the promotion and production of the final work of art. The project team is also looking for sponsors or collaborators to support them to create and finalize the 'Gate of Mongolia'.
