Foreign trade results in more surplus following increased coal price

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the first four months of 2017, Mongolia traded with 127 countries from all over the world and total trade turnover reached USD 3,017.3 million, of which USD 1,899.6 million were made up by exports and USD 1,117.7 million -- by imports.
Total foreign trade turnover increased by USD 807.2 million, to be specific, exports increased by USD 552.3 million and imports by USD 254.9 million compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the first 4 months of 2017, foreign trade surplus reached USD 781.9 million, which increased by USD 297.3 million from USD 484.6 million in the same period of 2016.
The export rise of USD 552.3 million was due to an increase of USD 623.0 million in mineral products export, particularly an increase of USD 614.1 million in coal export; however, export of precious stones, metal and jewelry decreased by USD 92.4 million.
The import increase of USD 254.9 million was mainly due to USD 99.9 million increase in mineral products import, specially USD 63.6 million increase in diesel import and USD25.3 million increase in petrol import, USD 65.7 million rise in machinery, equipment, electric appliances and USD 41.2 million increase in transportvehicles, their spare parts.
