Mongolian Judokas Cap 2025 with 39 Medals, Featuring 10 Gold

Ulaanbaatar, December 8, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The final event of the 2025 IJF World Judo Tour Grand Slam series was held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, where Mongolia secured one bronze medal.
More
than 300 athletes from 41 countries competed in the tournament. Mongolia
fielded 16 judokas across 11 weight categories and returned home with one
bronze medal. Specifically, in the men’s 73 kg division, International Master Uranbayar Odgerel claimed the bronze
medal. Leading Pool B, he received a bye in the opening round, defeated
Bahrain’s Mukhamed Aloev, but lost the pool final to Japan’s Shusuke Uchimura. In the repechage
rounds, he overcame the experienced American judoka Jack
Yonezuka
and went on to defeat Japan’s Yudai Tanaka
by waza-ari to secure the bronze. Tanaka had previously lost to Uranbayar in
last year’s Ulaanbaatar Grand Slam final, settling for silver, and suffered
another defeat this time on home soil, missing out on the podium.
Only 11 of the
41 participating nations earned medals at the Tokyo Grand Slam. Japan won 11 of
14 weight categories, with Georgia, Russia, and Korea taking the remaining
three. Japan topped the medal table, followed by Russia, South Korea, and Georgia,
while Portugal finished fifth with a single silver. Mongolia ranked eighth
overall with one bronze medal and five additional top-seven finishes.
The Mongolian national judo team concludes the 2025 season, including the World Championships, Asian Championships, Grand Slams, and Grand Prix events, with a total of 39 medals: 10 gold, 7 silver, and 22 bronze.
