President addresses high-level measure on sustainable development

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The President of Mongolia Mr Ts.Elbegdorj delivered a speech at a high-level measure called “Attracting the public to a sustainable development” co-organized on Sunday by Mongolia, Switzerland, Botswana and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA).

The President of Switzerland Ms Simonetta Sommaruga made the opening remarks at the event, and it was followed by a speech of the Mongolia’s President Mr Ts.Elbegdorj. In his speech, he pointed out that Mongolia has set additional goal on the democracy and human rights to the UN’s eight goals which were created in 2000.

Mongolia has not used the death penalty since 2009, the President said, adding that the corruption index of Mongolia considerably dropped in few years according to the Transparency International.

In his speech, the President talked about new laws of Mongolia on public hearing, budget transparency and other laws; achievements of Mongolia in democracy and transparency; and leadership of the Freedom Online Coalition (FOC) for 2016.

After the speech, the Mongolian President met a delegation led by Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, the Vice President of Botswana.
