Mongolian President welcomes New Year with good news for seniors

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga rang in the New Year with traditional greetings addressing the nation. The message was broadcasted on TV across the country just moments before the clock strikes midnight. 


“In the outgoing year that we had proclaimed to be a ‘Year of Reform’, paving the way for revival of the whole country, President of Mongolia, Speaker of the Mongolian Parliament and Prime Minister of Mongolia have succeeded to reach common ground”.


President Kh.Battulga said that the economic growth increased by five times compared to 2016, to 6.3 percent in 2019, achieving an economic stability. 


In his annual New year’s greeting, the President further mentioned the approval of long-deliberated amendments to the Constitution of Mongolia, which, he believes, will strengthen the sovereignty of Mongolia, laying the foundation to stability of development policy and the statehood while keeping the government accountable. 


Remarking about a great deal of accomplishments made in the year of 2019, including the government decision to ensure interests of Mongolia in the Oyu Tolgoi mining project, landmark revenue of MNT 1 billion by the Erdenet Mining Corporation to state and local budgets for the first time ever as well as resumption of railway projects and active participation of Mongolian Armed Force in the railway development. 


“The departing year saw many other successes, with the foreign relations of Mongolia were brought up to a new level and inauguration of a number of large-scale strategically important projects, such as oil refinery and new international airport” said Kh.Battulga.  


Reduction of air pollution in Ulaanbaatar city, improved legislative and judicial bodies and active citizenship and strengthened civil society are among the most significant features of 2019, he said. 


“The year 2020 will be a year to examine the mistakes and achievements of the democratic system of three decades and identify the long term visions and carry on with great development works we have started in the past 30 years.”


In conclusion, President Kh.Battulga made an announcement that the members of the National Security Council of Mongolia agreed on one-time cancellation of pension loan debt with a view to ease the debt burden imposed on senior citizens. "This measure will be brought about by putting the Salkhit silver deposit into economic circulation" said the Mongolian President.
