UNDP to provide USD 200 thousand for Mongolia's COVID-19 response
PoliticsUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On May 26, Deputy Prime Minister
U.Enkhtuvshin met with Resident Representative of the United
Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mongolia Elaine Conkievich.
Deputy PM U.Enkhtuvshin expressed gratitude to the agency
for supporting Mongolia’s social and development goals at all times.
Under the UNDP Mongolia Country Programme 2017-2021, USD 50
million worth of projects are being implemented in the country with two main expected
outcomes: (1) Inclusive and sustainable development and (2) Voice,
participation and accountability.
It was informed at the meeting that additional USD 200
thousand will be provided to Mongolia from a fund the agency set up to provide
support to countries for the fight against Covid-19.
The Deputy PM stressed the importance of taking preventative measures and being prepared as the World Health Organization estimated that one percent of the country’s population or 33 thousand people at the very least could get infected with Covid-19 should an outbreak occur. He also expressed his hope that Mongolia and the United Nations will broadly cooperate in the implementation of the country’s Vision 2050 long-term development policy document.
