‘Selenge-2020’ Mongolia-Russia joint military exercise wraps up

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. The final stage of the Mongolia –Russia ‘Selenge-2020’ joint tactical exercise took place at the Burduny training site in the Republic of Buryatia on October 28-31.


Under the decision of the State Emergency Commission (SEC), an operational group of the Armed Forces of Mongolia led by Brigadier General L. Ontsgoibayar participated in the joint exercise. For the first time, the two countries organized the exercise on their respective territories under the SEC decision in regard with COVID-19 pandemic, but jointly carried out the final stage or joint field exercise on the territory of the Russian Federation.


The joint Russian-Mongolian exercise ‘Selenge-2020’ involved tank and motorized rifle units of the combined-arms army of the Eastern Military District, stationed in the Republic of Buryatia, with a total strength of over 600 people and more than 100 pieces of equipment. The troops of the Armed Forces of Mongolia were about 600 people with more than 100 units of the automobile and mechanized equipment at their training ground.


The joint exercise ran in three stages, aimed at preparing for a joint tactical operation to fight international terrorism and eliminating conditional illegal armed groups using various tactics of modern combat within the collaboration of military personnel of the two countries.  


A contingent of troops of the Mongolian Armed Forces, who took part in the final stage of the Selenge 2020 tactical field exercise, will be put into 21-day mandatory isolation after their arrival in Mongolia according to the SEC's decision.
