In this edition of the series ‘Mongolian Fine Art Masterpieces’ brought to you by MONTSAME News Agency in cooperation with Mongolian National Art Gallery, we are presenting the artwork, ‘Lasso Holder’ by sculptor L.Dashdeleg.

The 221x105x121 cm monumental artwork called ‘Lasso Holder’ was sculpted in 1969. The sculpture portrays the hardworking herder wearing a raincoat and holding a lasso in his right hand, who is an integral part of the socialist society, as fearless. The statue of a man staring into the distance with his left leg placed forward and his right hand holding a lasso half raised in preparation to throw the lasso depicts a moment in the life of a herder.

The sculpture is one of the largest artworks in the collection of Mongolian National Art Gallery.

One of the talented sculptors that contributed to the development of contemporary sculpture in Mongolia - L.Dashdeleg studied sculpture at Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad between 1962 and 1966. He took first place in an art competition held in 1956 with his piece called ‘Sculptor Mother’.
