"Student Police-2024" Program Launched

Ulaanbaatar, July 3, 2024 /MONTSAME/. In alignment with Mongolia's New Revival Policy, which emphasizes the growth of the tourism sector and designates this year as the "Year of Tourism," the "Student Police-2024" program has been initiated. This program, which aims at enhancing the safety of foreign tourists and preventing crimes and misdemeanors, is a collaborative effort between the Capital City's Council for Crime Prevention and the Capital City's Tourism Department.
Starting from June 13, 2024, 50 students from 17 universities, proficient in eight languages, have been deployed to patrol key tourist hotspots across the city. The initiative's budget enables the participation of 50 students, working in shifts of no more than six hours each. These students are stationed in 25 high-traffic tourist areas within the districts of Bayanzurkh, Bayangol, Sukhbaatar, Chingeltei, Khan-Uul, and Nalaikh.
The student volunteers are easily identifiable by their green mesh vests, which feature "Guide for Tourist" on the right chest and a QR code on the left chest containing information on historical sites, entertainment venues, and police stations. The back of the vest is labeled with "STUDENT POLICE," and they also wear white caps. Their responsibilities include ensuring the safety of tourists, preventing crimes and violations, and providing necessary assistance.
As of June 27, 2024, through the "Student Police-2024" program, these volunteers have assisted in filing five violation reports via the police organization's special 102 hotline, aided 632 domestic citizens, assisted 799 foreign visitors through interpretation, and reunited a lost child with their family. Additionally, they have provided information about Mongolia's natural and historical landmarks and entertainment venues to foreign tourists through the use of QR codes.
