Ulaanbaatar, October 21, 2024 /MONTSAME/. After participating in the “Golden Autumn-2024” harvest festival, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa visited the newly relocated building of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia in Darkhan City on October 20, 2024.

During the visit, President Khurelsukh met with ministry officials to discuss the comprehensive policy planning for the food, agriculture, and light industry sectors. The Head of State and the ministry officials exchanged views on accelerating the implementation of the “Food Supply and Security” National Movement, including the “Food Revolution,” as well as the “White Gold” National Program, both of which were initiated by President of Mongolia.

At the meeting, Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia Enkhbayar Jadamba highlighted that the relocation of the Ministry to Darkhan-Uul aimag will focus investments in the agricultural sector to the Central region of Mongolia, which will also help develop food and light industry clusters and other types of manufacturing within the region and expand the arable land in rotation by 200,000 hectares.

President Khurelsukh initiated the "Food Supply and Security" National Movement which aims at fully meeting domestic demand for 19 key food products within five years and eventually becoming an exporter country in these goods.

To fully implement the National Movement and reach tangible results, the State Great Khural of Mongolia passed Resolution No. 36, which approved the funding of MNT 1.7 trillion to the food and agricultural sector within 5 years and tasked the Government with certain actions and responsibilities.

Furthermore, Mongolia's regional development concept designates Darkhan-Uul, Selenge, and Tuv aimags in the Central region as a "Subregion for Diversified Agriculture and Industry." In line with this designation, the decision was made to relocate the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry of Mongolia to Darkhan-Uul aimag.

The relocation of the Ministry is being implemented in phases. The first phase has already seen the relocation of the Ministry’s initial personnel to Darkhan City, as well as the "Mongolian Agricultural Corporation" SOE and the "Mongolian Agricultural Commodity Exchange SOE."
