125.3 Million Passengers Transported In the First 10 Months of 2024
SocietyUlaanbaatar, November 7, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Ministry of Road and Transport of Mongolia reported that 125.3 million passengers were transported by all types of transportation in the first 10 months of this year.
According to the Ministry, road transport carried 121.7 million passengers, air transport 1.9 million, and railway transport 1.6 million. The number of air transport passengers increased by 27 percent compared to the same period last year.
In the first 9 months of the 2024, a total of 626.0 thousand 89.5 percent inbound foreign passengers stayed for up to 30 days, 2.0 thousand 0.3 percent for more than 60 days, 7.8 thousand 1.1 percent for up to 90 days, and 63.0 thousand 9.1 percent for more than 90 days. In terms of arrivals by countries, 26.9 percent were Chinese, 25.4 percent were Russian and South Korean, 3.2 percent were Japanese, 3.0 percent were from Kazakhstan, 2.2 percent were American, and 13.9 percent were from other countries.
Of the majority of inbound foreign passengers, 63.8 percent came from East Asia and the Pacific region, followed by 31.4 percent from Europe, 2.7 percent from America, 1.2 percent from the Middle East, and 0.9 percent from South Asia and African regions. In comparison to the previous year, there was a significant increase in the number of tourists from foreign countries. The number of tourists from China increased by 49.2 thousand 61.5 percent, from South Korea by 36.5 thousand 29.5 percent, from Taiwan by 5.9 thousand 2.2 times higher, from Kazakhstan by 3.5 thousand 21.1 percent, and from Japan by 5.1 thousand 31.6 percent according to National Statistics Office of Mongolia.
In the same period, 107 million tons of cargo were transported across all types of transportation. This included 70.5 million tons by road, 36.5 million tons by railway, and 8,500 tons by air. Overall, cargo transportation increased by 20.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
Specifically, cargo transported by road rose by 24.2 percent, and by railway by 14 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
