Khangai -Shikoku Regional Cooperation Commences

Ulaanbaatar, December 30, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Foreign Minister of Mongolia Battsetseg Batmunkh delivered greetings to the interregional joint conference themed “The Future of Cooperation between Mongolia’s Khangai Region and Japan’s Shikoku Region,” which was held on December 27, 2025, in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture, Shikoku, Japan.
Minister Battsetseg underscored the importance of
strengthening cooperation and relations between the regions and localities of
the two countries within the framework of implementing Mongolia’s Regional
Development Policy. She also highly appreciated the efforts and leadership of the
Honorary Consuls of Mongolia in Japan in advancing cooperation in this area.
From the Mongolian side, present were the Khangai Region’s representatives,
including the chair of the Citizens’ Representatives Khural of Uvurkhangai aimag,
the deputy Governor of Bayankhongor aimag, and the deputy Governor of Arkhangai
aimag, as well as the Honorary Consuls of Mongolia in Japan.
From the Japanese side, participants included
representatives of members of the House of Representatives from the Shikoku
Region; the deputy governors of Tokushima and Kochi prefectures; leaders and
chairs of citizens’ assemblies of the cities of Anan, Komatsushima, and Awa in
Tokushima Prefecture; representatives of the prefecture’s Chamber of Commerce
and Industry; members of the Mongolia Exchange Association of Western Japan;
and representatives of the private sector.

During the conference, the detailed information was
presented on the development goals of the Khangai region, and participants
exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation. Moreover, information on the
“New Kharkhorin City” project was provided.
The conference, co-organized with Mongolia’s Honorary Consul
in Tokushima, Kawauchi Shiro, was instrumental in energizing the work of the
honorary consuls, establishing clearer policy directions for cooperation, and
creating opportunities to share experiences. Overall, it played a crucial role
in bringing the two countries closer together at both regional and local
levels, thereby strengthening mutual understanding.
