National Camel Festival to Be Held in Dundgobi
Art & Culture
Ulaanbaatar, January 5, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Under the auspices of the President of Mongolia, the “Temeen Deerees Naran Oirkhon” [The Sun Is Closer on a Camel] camel herders’ festival is set to be held in Dundgobi aimag from January 23 to 25, 2026.
The festival aims to promote Mongolian camels, the two-humped Bactrian camel species, and camel culture, to expand the economic circulation of camel products, and pass the rich Mongolian camel breeding heritage onto future generations.
The festival will
feature a national camel herders meeting, skill competitions among bearers of
camel culture, races for atan (ridden) camels, torom
(two-year-old) camels, and tailag (three-year-old) camels.
“The Mongol
Camel-999” event was
previously held in Dalanzadgad, Umnugobi aimag, in 2016, where 1,108 camels
competed—an achievement that was recorded in the Guinness World Records as the
largest camel race.
