Saikhanjargal Otgonbayar Wins Silver at the Ice Climbing World Cup

Ulaanbaatar, January 12, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The first competition of the new season of the 2026 Ice Climbing World Cup series, organized by the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA), was held in Cheongsong, the Republic of Korea, where Mongolian athlete Saikhanjargal Otgonjargal won a silver medal.
More than 120 athletes from 18 countries participated in the competition. Mongolia was represented by eight athletes: international masters Selenge Nyamdoo, Kherlen Nyamdoo, Saikhanjargal Otgonjargal, Mandakhbayar Chuluunbaatar, and masters of sport Zorigtbaatar Azjargal, Otgonkhuu D., Dulguun E., and Amina Janbota.
In the speed discipline, climber Saikhanjargal claimed the silver medal with a time of 19.90 seconds, securing the first medal for the Mongolian team in the World Cup series this season. In the same event, climber Otgonkhuu placed 6th, Kherlen 15th, Zorigtbaatar 17th, and Dulguun 32nd. Among women, Selenge finished 4th, while Amina placed 11th. Mandakhbayar was eliminated due to a technical error.
In the lead discipline, athlete Selenge finished 36th among women, and Mandakhbayar also placed 36th among men, concluding the Mongolian team’s first appearance in the World Cup series.
It is worth noting that for the 2025–2026 UIAA Ice Climbing season, the brand Fixe is serving as the official technical partner. Technical officials and teams at each World Cup event will use Fixe ropes, carabiners, belay devices, anchors, and helmets, all of which meet the requirements for competitions in every category.
