USD 100 Million Project to Strengthen Mongolia’s Disaster Resilience
Society
Ulaanbaatar, January 14, 2026 /MONTSAME/. A leadership meeting to define the 2026 priorities and operational directions of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is underway.
To
strengthen national resilience, particularly disaster resilience, the
government has decided to implement the project titled “Strengthening
Disaster Resilience in Mongolia” this year. In this regard, the government
submitted a Framework Financing Program with the Asian Development
Bank on November 4, 2025, which the State Great Khural approved in December.
Under
the program, a USD 100 million project will be implemented to
increase vehicles, machinery, and equipment for search and rescue and emergency
recovery operations. The project will also focus on enhancing disaster
preparedness and response capacities at the local government and community
levels, officials emphasized at the meeting.
Although
the number of natural disasters and emergency incidents continues to rise each
year, the NEMA has effectively carried out its core mandates in disaster
prevention, rescue, response, and emergency recovery. In 2025, the agency
fulfilled its annual objectives and received an “A” rating with a
performance score of 94.1 percent in its overall operational assessment.
