Ulaanbaatar, January 15, 2025 /MONTSAME/. During its regular session on January 14, 2025, the Government decided to keep the fee payable by citizens in 2026 for fulfilling alternative military service in the form of a monetary payment unchanged. In accordance with the Government Resolution of 2025, the amount remains at MNT 15,937,600.00.

The decision was made in consideration of the current economic difficulties, as well as citizens’ living standards and income levels. The Law on Military Service stipulates that “the Government shall annually approve the amount of the monetary payment for fulfilling alternative military service instead of active military service, calculated based on the variable costs per conscript for that given year.”

When determining the amount of the monetary payment for alternative military service, the calculation is based on the annual variable expenses required for the provision and support of one conscripted soldier.

During the COVID-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2022, the Government had decided not to increase the monetary payment for alternative military service for a period of three years.
