Ulaanbaatar, January 22, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The National Center for Cultural Heritage, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Turkish Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Institute to cooperate in the fields of archaeology and cultural heritage.
According to
the National Center for Cultural Heritage, the memorandum provides for the
implementation of a joint project at ancient Turkic Khaganate period sites
in the Tuul River Valley, focusing on ethno-archaeology, climate change, the
preservation and protection of immovable historical and cultural heritage, and
risk management.
The
project is planned to be implemented over five years and will involve
relevant professional institutions in Mongolia in the fields of history,
archaeology, ethnology, linguistics, and natural sciences, as well as local
government authorities.
Through
the project, the parties will conduct joint archaeological and scientific
research and establish a consolidated database of research findings. The
agreement also enables mutual use of research outputs, promotes the exchange of
academic and professional experts, and supports the organization of training
courses, seminars, and academic conferences in the fields of archaeology and
cultural heritage, as well as the production of joint publications.
The results
of the joint research are expected to allow for an assessment of the
preservation and protection conditions of heritage sites in the Tuul River
Valley, the development of response measures to mitigate the impacts of climate
change, the expansion of bilateral cooperation in archaeological and cultural
heritage research, the strengthening of academic collaboration, the development
of best practices in heritage protection, and increased public awareness of
