Ulaanbaatar, January 23, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Across Mongolia, a total of 485 entities are licensed to import and supply medicines and medical devices, while 29 entities hold licenses to manufacture and export medicines and medical equipment. As of January 12 this year, 3,914 medicines are registered in Mongolia, including 546 traditional medicines and 342 domestically produced medicines. Of the country’s 2,906 pharmacies, 1,560 dispense health insurance–covered discounted medicines through an electronic prescription system.
Minister of Health Chinburen Jigjidsuren recently visited the Department of Control and Regulation of Medicines and Medical Devices. According to the Acting Head of the agency, Altantsetseg P., a total of 1,622 scheduled and unscheduled inspections were conducted at medicine suppliers, pharmacies, and healthcare institutions in 2025, during which 7,815 violations were identified. Of these, 2,996 violations were rectified, and formal notices with deadlines were issued to 422 entities.
Minister Chinburen emphasized that the Government of Mongolia is pursuing a policy aimed at ensuring the quality of medicines and stabilizing prices, and that the agency’s activities must be closely aligned with this policy. He stressed the need to focus on introducing higher-quality medicines to the market and realistically reducing prices.
He added that an online system for transparently disclosing medicine prices (https://em.hdc.gov.mn) was jointly launched in 2025 by the Ministry of Health, the Center for Health Development, the Department of Control and Regulation of Medicines and Medical Devices, and the Information Technology Center of Finance. The system currently provides publicly accessible price information for more than 2,600 medicines. The Minister instructed the agency to promptly register and update price information for newly registered pharmacies and medicines in the system.
Highlighting the importance of public oversight in addressing issues related to medicine prices and quality, Minister Chinburen urged citizens to actively use the online platform.
