Ulaanbaatar, January 23, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The Embassy of Mongolia in the People’s Republic of China hosted a briefing in Beijing for non-resident Ambassadors accredited to Mongolia regarding the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
A delegation led
by Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Batbaatar Bat, is currently on a
working visit to Beijing to advance Mongolia’s climate policies and
international commitments, attract green investment, and strengthen regional
cooperation. It aims to expand international
partnerships in combating climate change, land degradation, and
desertification, as well as secure financing, investment, and technological
support for the upcoming high-level conference.
The event brought together ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from over 70 countries concurrently accredited to Mongolia from Beijing. Notably, the Ambassadors of Croatia, Ecuador, Grenada, Romania, Armenia, Brazil, Türkiye, and Cyprus attended the briefing in person.

During the meeting, the Mongolian side provided updates on
the preparations for COP17, which Mongolia will host this summer, and briefed on
Mongolia’s objectives, priority areas, and potential avenues for international
cooperation. The participants also exchanged views on increasing the
involvement and support of partner nations.
As the host of this major global event in 2026, Mongolia is
intensifying its preparations through a series of phased meetings and
consultations. These dialogues are expected to lay the groundwork for concrete
progress in international cooperation, investment, conservation, and
sustainable water resource management.
