‘The Last Nomads’ Available for Mongolian Readers

first editorial to win the Baldorj award, recipient of the Gan Uzeg (Steel Pen)
award from the Confederation of Mongolian Journalists, the news website ergelt.mn,
under the Oyunlag Ergelt Media Group, has released three publications for their
fifth anniversary, including the book Suulchiin Nuudelchid (The Last Nomads).
The book, the opening of which was held in the French Republic, Hungary, the
Czech Republic, the Republic of Austria, the Swiss Confederation, and the
Italian Republic at the end of 2025, is now available for Mongolian readers.
The opening of the
English-Mongolian publication of “The Last Nomads” took place at the Chinggis
Khaan National Museum on January 29, 2026.
The book contains 32 profile stories,
including those about the elderly who carry salt for forty years, the two
brothers who ride to school on horseback, and the local doctor of old age who receives
a call for the sake of the residents’ well-being. Namely, the following profile
articles can be found in the book: “I think Mongolia is the biggest country in
the world – students of Khanui elementary school” by project initiator
Khurelbaatar Enkhbaatar, “Tulgaa, the water-boy” by editor-in-chief Enkhmart
Byambaa, “The white-robed one amidst the snow” by journalist Tsogtbayar
Baatartsogt, “Forty years carrying salt” and “The major shareholder, or the
dumpsite tycoon A. Chuluun” by Chantsaldulam Dorj, “The life story of L. Sukhee,
the legendary border scout” by Badralmaa Bat-Erdene, and “The puzzle found in
grandmother’s chest” by Otgonbaatar Natsagdorj.
The writers noted that this book of
rare stories from Mongolian lives is a journalistic work that can serve as a
reference for many readers, writers, and researchers – anyone who seeks and enjoys
unique stories not only from Mongolia, but from all around the globe. The English
edition was translated by translator and diplomat Burenbayar Chanrav.
Scholars and researchers in journalism, senior journalists, and media representatives of newspapers, television, and digital websites attended the book opening.
