UNCCD Executive Secretary Visiting Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, February 3, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Yasmine Fouad, is paying an official visit to Mongolia from February 3 to 6, as part of the preparations for the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UNCCD.
The visit aims to strengthen international cooperation in
combating desertification, land degradation and drought as well as to review
the preparatory works for COP17, which is scheduled to be held in Ulaanbaatar
in August 2026. During the visit, the UNCCD Executive Secretary is expected to
hold meetings and discussions with high-level officials of Mongolia,
ambassadors, and representatives of the international organizations,
development partners, the private sectors, scientists and researchers, civil
society organizations, and representative of youth and children. The engagements focus on ensuring multi-stakeholder participation in efforts to combat desertification
and on opportunities to expand cooperation.
Yasmine Fouad was appointed Executive Secretary of the
United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) on May 22, 2025. She
previously was the Minister of Environment of the Arab Republic of Egypt from
2018 to 2025.
