Ulaanbaatar, February 4, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Enkhtuvshin Begzsuren has highlighted the need to provide the public with accurate information and to take tough action against illegal mineral extraction, noting that widespread illegal mining of gold, fluorspar, and precious stones has fueled public perceptions of environmental destruction in Mongolia.
He made the remarks during a joint conference of state inspectors in the industry and mineral resources sector, adding that preparations have been completed to submit a draft law amending the Law on Minerals to the spring session of the State Great Khural.
Participants in the conference pointed to a shortage of professional personnel in local areas, the need to strengthen occupational safety and health, improve management, enhance the practical application of scientific research, and better utilize market-based economic mechanisms. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the role and responsibility of senior state inspectors in the industry and mineral resources sector are critical in addressing these issues.
The conference, attended by leaders of the Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority of Mongolia, as well as state inspectors from the Capital city and 21 aimags, will be held annually going forward to clearly define functions and areas of responsibility.
