Importance of Strengthening Mongolia-Japan Friendly Relations and Cooperation Underscored

Ulaanbaatar, February 6, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Speaker of the State Great Khural (Parliament) Uchral Nyam-Osor met Ambassador of Japan to Mongolia Igawahara Masaru on February 6, 2026.
During the meeting, Speaker Uchral underscored that
deepening friendly relations and cooperation with Japan, a “Special Strategic
Partner” and a “third neighbor” for Mongolia, is a top priority of Mongolia’s
foreign policy.
Speaker Uchral emphasized the importance of exchanging
legislative experiences and strengthening bilateral ties. Inter-parliamentary
relations, particularly the relations between parliamentary groups play a
pivotal role in this partnership.
The Speaker highlighted that the "Five-Year Development
Policy for 2026-2030," recently approved by Mongolian Parliament, includes
a comprehensive investment program. He stated that, the Parliament, in this
context, is firmly committed to protecting the interests of foreign investors
and improving the investment environment.
He also introduced about “Chuluulye” (Liberate) Initiative,
which aims to create a legal environment where human rights and freedoms are
enjoyed equally and inclusively, and to create a system in which the state
provides opportunities rather than pressure for every who works. “In this
context, the Parliament is working to accelerate reforms in the banking sector
and improve the legal environment. In principle, to support foreign investors in
the domestic market," Uchral said.
Ambassador
Igawahara expressed his pleasure at meeting again with the Speaker and stated
that, at a time when the international situation is complex, the two countries
will work hand in hand to further strengthen their “Special Strategic
Partnership for Peace and Prosperity” and to deepen bilateral relations and
cooperation. He also noted that he would work actively to develop mutual
visits, relations, and cooperation between the two countries in 2026, and in
particular expressed his hope that the Speaker would provide leadership in
strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
In
addition, he said he was pleased to hear positive information about the
investment program approved within the framework of the “Five-Year Main
Development Directions of Mongolia for 2026–2030,” and emphasized an importance
of support from all parties in accelerating banking sector reforms, developing
artificial intelligence and information technology, and improving the legal
environment for investment.
