Ulaanbaatar, February 9, 2026
/MONTSAME/. Mongolia is interested in cooperating with the European
Investment Bank to support the preparation for organizing the 17th Conference of
the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)
in Ulaanbaatar, as well as Mongolia’s three initiatives: Pastureland Leadership
Initiative, Integrated Water-Land Management, and Nature-Based Infrastructure
Solutions.
This was discussed during the
meeting between the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia,
Batbaatar Bat, the Head of Regional Representation to Mongolia for the European
Investment Bank (EIB), Ralf Aymar, and the Director of Cooperation at the Delegation
of the European Union, Adrien Murg.
During the meeting, the parties
highlighted the broad and active cooperation with the European Union in the
fields of environment and forestry, and discussed preparations for COP17. In
particular, they exchanged views on organizing, together with the Ministry of
Environment and Climate Change, the Forest Agency, and other stakeholders, a
presentation on the results achieved under the Forest Partnership, legal and
policy reforms in the forestry sector, and the bilateral investment program.
Minister Batbaatar emphasized that
the outcomes of COP17 should not be limited to short-term projects, but rather
developed into a long-term, coherent investment platform under the “Steppe
Action Agenda”, ensuring a sustainable legacy, and noted that support from the
EIB is crucial in this regard.
