800 Ger District Households to Transition to Renewable Energy
Economy
Ulaanbaatar, February 9, 2026 /MONTSAME/. A total of 800 households in Ulaanbaatar’s ger districts will be supplied with clean and reliable energy through the construction of a 2.5 MW solar microgrid.
According to the Capital City Governor’s Office’s Department of Public Relations and Communications, electric heaters will be installed in 800 households, along with solar panels with capacities ranging from 80 kW to 1,000 kW, each combined with battery energy storage systems.
A Memorandum of Understanding to implement the “Livelihood Support Project Promoting the Transition to Renewable Energy in Ger Districts” was signed by the Mayor of the Capital City and the Governor of Ulaanbaatar, Nyambaatar Khishgee, UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia, Matilda Dimovska, and Chief Executive Officer of Ulaanbaatar Investment Management UCC LLC, Gangamurun Ganbaatar.
The project will pilot a microgrid solution that integrates solar power systems with battery storage, connects households to the centralized electricity network, and enables heating through renewable energy. It is expected to serve as a model for increasing the share of clean energy in the Capital city’s overall energy consumption.
The project is scheduled for completion by December 2027.
