Mongolian Junior Wrestlers Win Three Medals at Hakuho Cup

/MONTSAME/. Mongolian athletes won three medals at the international junior
sumo tournament, the “Hakuho Cup,” named after Hakuho Davaajargal Munkhbat, the 69th
Yokozuna of professional Japanese sumo.
The 16th edition of the tournament
was held at Toyota Arena and featured a total of 1,305 athletes from 18
countries. Competitors from Mongolia won one gold and two silver medals across
two age categories. Specifically, in the under-12 category, which had 192
competitors, Sungerel N. won a silver medal. In the 13-15 age category, where
384 athletes competed, Chilugen T., who is studying at Japan’s Tottori Johoku
School on a 100 percent scholarship, won a gold medal, while Khashmargad U. earned a silver medal. Chilugen claimed
victory at this tournament for the second consecutive year.
In the under-10 category, 192 children competed, and Sungerel D., a student from Bayankhongor aimag, achieved four wins and advanced to the top eight. In the team competition, 128 teams took part. The Mongolian team recorded four victories but was defeated in the bronze medal match.
