Ulaanbaatar, February 10, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister  Zandanshatar Gombojav worked at the "Erdenes Tavantolgoi" JSC mine on February 8, 2026, to review the implementation of tasks and directives he issued in July 2025.

He also attended and delivered remarks at the opening of the coal feed conveyor, crusher system, and truck loading facilities of the Coal Processing Plant. With the commissioning of the 12.6-kilometer conveyor, conditions have been created for operating the processing plant at full capacity. Dust emissions generated during transportation have been reduced by 90 percent, while the risk of accidents and fatalities associated with road transport has been eliminated. In addition, coal can now be mined without sorting and directly exported. Transportation costs previously incurred by hauling 10 million tons of coal annually by truck have been reduced by 78 percent, resulting in average annual savings of MNT 267.5 billion.

The Prime Minister instructed the management of Erdenes Tavantolgoi JSC to resolve 41 contracts that had been stalled due to a downturn in international coal prices and other factors. Of these, 37 contracts have been settled, and 4.2 million tons of coal have been sold through the Mongolian Stock Exchange. The company has also begun delivering and selling coal directly to end users deep within China and to major coal trading ports. Company executives reported that efforts are underway to enter third markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, and India, reduce dependence on a limited number of buyers, and expand market reach.

As part of efforts to align corporate governance and transparency with international standards and transform the company into an open and transparent entity, the Prime Minister instructed that the selection of the executive management team and independent members of the Board of Directors be conducted through an open process with public participation. He further directed that international audits of the company’s operations and financial statements for the past three years be completed by the second quarter of this year, and that the Public Interest Oversight Board (PIOB) under the Board of Directors be established through an open selection process.

The Prime Minister also instructed the company to ensure implementation of the State Great Khural resolution on bringing the Borteeg coal deposit into economic circulation, to finalize a feasibility study aimed at achieving the highest returns and long-term sustainable utilization of the deposit, and to submit the mine development plan to the Government. He emphasized the need to streamline investment, procurement, and financial operations, avoid inefficient expenditures and purchases, and strictly uphold financial discipline and accountability.
