Mongolian Cross-Country Skiers Compete at Winter Olympics

Ulaanbaatar, February 11, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Mongolian cross-country skiers continue their participation at the Winter Olympics underway in Tesero, Italy, competing in sprint and distance events against the world’s top athletes. The men’s 1.5 km sprint event in cross-country skiing concluded on February 10.
Mongolia was represented in the race by national team member and “Khilchin” Sports Committee athlete, International Master Achbadrakh Batmunkh. He placed 81st out of 95 competitors in the qualification round. Four years ago, he finished 77th in the same event. Skiers from Haiti, Colombia, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, China, Serbia, Venezuela, North Macedonia, Bolivia, Hungary, Portugal, Greece, Kyrgyzstan, and Ireland finished behind him.
Competing
in his third Olympic Games, Achbadrakh will conclude his participation on
February 13 in the men’s 10 km classical cross-country skiing event.
Meanwhile,
one of the three Mongolian athletes competing at the Games, national team
member and “Aldar” Sports Committee athlete, International Master Ariuntungalag
Enkhbayar took part in the women’s 1.5 km sprint. In the qualification round,
which featured 89 athletes from 35 countries, she finished 68th with a time of
4 minutes 15.19 seconds. Making her Olympic debut, she will wrap up her
competition on February 12 in the women’s 10 km classical event.
Athletes from China (four), South Korea and Latvia (three each), Kazakhstan and Brazil (two each), as well as Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Argentina, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, and Lithuania finished behind her. Ariuntungalag has competed in the Cross-Country Skiing World Championships four times, achieving a career-best 22nd place in 2023. She also won a silver medal at the Asian Cup held in the Republic of Korea last month.
