Society
Ulaanbaatar, February 13, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Since the beginning of the year, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received eight reports of incidents involving people breaking through river and lake ice, rescuing four citizens.
Of the reported cases, five occurred in Khuvsgul aimag, while the others
were recorded in Zavkhan and Darkhan-Uul aimags and Baganuur district of the
capital.
Due to varying weather conditions, ice thickness differs across lakes and
along river stretches. NEMA has warned citizens and drivers not to travel over
ice in an attempt to save time or shorten routes, and to avoid putting their
lives, health, and property at risk.
