Prime Minister Assigns to Stabilize Energy Sector

Ulaanbaatar, March 1, 2026 /MONTSAME/. Prime Minister Zandanshatar Gombojav met today with relevant officials to discuss the current situation and pressing issues facing Mongolia’s energy sector and issued directions aimed at ensuring its stability.
Officials reported that groundworks for the “Combined
Heat and Power (CHP) Plant No. 5” project began last week, with drilling
operations already underway. According to the plan, construction of the plant’s
main facilities is scheduled to commence on April 1.
Representatives of relevant professional
organizations also briefed the Prime Minister on the progress of the 660 MW
Bayan Power Plant project and the expansion of the Ulaanbaatar Electricity
Distribution Network.
The Prime Minister instructed officials to draft a resolution outlining medium-term measures to ensure the reliable and stable operation of the energy sector and to present it at a Cabinet meeting within this month. The directive was given to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Development Enkhbayar Jadamba, Minister of Energy Choijilsuren Battogtokh, and Minister of Finance Javkhlan Bold.
