Selenge Retains World No. 1 Ranking in Ice Climbing

Ulaanbaatar, March 2, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The final round of the 2026 UIAA Ice Climbing World Cup season was held on February 26-28 in Edmonton, Canada, where Mongolia’s climber Selenge Nyamdoo claimed first place. Competing in the speed discipline, she demonstrated outstanding agility and strength to secure her second gold medal of the 2025–2026 season.
With 310 points in the updated rankings, she now leads all athletes globally, topping the world standings for the second consecutive year.
Over the past two years, Selenge has competed in nine World Cup events, winning five gold medals and one silver, in addition to three fourth-place finishes. Her victories have seen Mongolia’s national anthem played in five countries — the Republic of Korea, Switzerland, France, the United States, and Canada.
Meanwhile,
International Master Mandakhbayar Chuluunbaatar won a bronze medal in Edmonton.
With this result, he concluded the season ranked third overall in the World Cup
standings. Kherlen N. placed sixth, while Saikhanjargal O. finished eighth.
Notably, Selenge, Kherlen, Saikhanjargal, and Mandakhbayar completed the four stages of the 2025–2026 season with a total of two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals in the speed discipline.
