Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Speaker of the Parliament G.Zandanshatar received Ambassador of Japan to Mongolia Hiroyuki Kobayashi on March 17.

The Government of Japan rendered assistance and loan worth of JPY 332.4 billion or USD 3 billion to Mongolia in 1977-2019. Noting that the country has been providing soft loan and non-refundable aid to Mongolia for supply of medical equipment and vaccine within measures to overcome COVID-19 pandemic, the Speaker expressed gratitude to the Japanese government and its people, who give their helping hands to Mongolians when difficult time comes.

“The two countries have many similarities in their culture, customs and tradition. Hence, we have willingness to study the Japanese model of development policy and planning, receive consulting service and expand technical cooperation. In general, we reckon that bilateral relations should be developed further within development cooperation rather than assistance and loan. I am happy for the successful implementation of the projects such as New Ulaanbaatar International Airport and Mongolia-Japan University Hospital, that can be symbol of bilateral ties, which carried out within the framework of Japan’s official development assistance, said the Speaker.

In turn, Ambassador H.Kobayashi said that Japan has been providing official development assistance and loans to numerous sectors of Mongolia. Providing development policy assistance is the most important for us. Therefore, we will be happy to cooperate in this direction and share our experiences and lessons.

During the meeting, the sides touched issues including bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation, events and activities to be carried out within the 50th diplomatic anniversary between the two countries, which will be marked next year and promoting the Japanese model of development and experience in Mongolia.
