World Bank pledges support to National Campaign to Plant Billion Trees

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ On November 2, during the United Nations Climate Change Conference, President of Mongolia U.Khurelsukh had a meeting with World Bank Managing Director of Operations Axel van Trotsenburg and World Bank Vice President for East Asia and Pacific Manuela Ferro.

 

At the beginning of the meeting, the President of Mongolia extended congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Mongolia and the World Bank Group and thanked WB Group for providing support to Mongolia in the past and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The sides discussed at length issues related to post-pandemic economic recovery, transition to green economy, green financing, and climate change.

 

President U.Khurelsukh underscored that Mongolia is giving special focus to having protection against short-term economic risks by keeping macroeconomic stability, reducing budget deficits, ensuring debt sustainability, and building up adequate foreign exchange reserves.


Moreover, the President said Mongolia places great emphasis on environment and climate change issues and will play an active role in the region to become a model green development country, fight desertification and dust storms, and increase green financing.

 

The World Bank Group undertook to consistently support the Mongolian President’s activities and initiatives against climate change and in particular provide all-round support including expert advice in implementing and financing the National Campaign to Plant One Billion Trees.
