Foreign Minister holds phone conversation with Indian counterpart

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Minister of Foreign Minister D. Tsogtbaatar held a phone conversation with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on May 29.


Noting the effectiveness of COVID-19 response by the Government of India, Mr. Tsogtbaatar thanked the Indian side for its support in the recent repatriation of Mongolian citizens from India. The sides concurred to continue their collaboration to support their citizens.


Mr. Tsogtbaatar noted the importance of cooperation and mutual support between the countries of the region in overcoming the pandemic and introduced his definite initiatives in this direction.


Indian Minister of External Affairs S.Jaishankar highly praised the fact that Mongolia has zero community transmissions and its Government is taking prompt and effective response measures, and expressed willingness to cooperate in the supply of COVID-19 pharmaceuticals.


Mr.Tsogtbaatar emphasized that the Government of Mongolia attaches great importance to the Oil Refinery project and exchanged views with his Indian counterpart on intensifying the implementation of the project despite the pandemic. He also notified of an establishment of a working group responsible for trial shipping of some goods with aims to expand trade with India and increase the logistics capacity, for which the sides came into a decision to join their effort.


This year marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Republic of India. They talked over to re-organize a high-level visit from India, which was scheduled this May as a part of the anniversary celebration after the COVID-19 spread subsides.


In conclusion, the Ministers concurred to keep the tradition of their active cooperation in the international and regional arenas and work closely even further within international organizations such as the United Nations.
