‘Veins of the World’ selected as Mongolia’s official entry for Oscars

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The film, ‘Veins of the World’, by director Byambasuren Davaa has been selected as Mongolia’s official entry for this year’s Oscars. With her previous works being ‘The Story of the Weeping Camel’, ‘The Cave of the Yellow Dog’, and ‘The Two Horses of Chingghis Khan’, it is the 4th film by the director. 

 

Jointly produced by Basis Berlin film production, MongolTV, and Broadcasting Berlin-Brandenburg, its premiere took place at the Berlin Film Festival last year.

 

The film depicts nomadic life in Mongolia. As the environment is being recklessly destroyed by foreign mining companies, the father of an 11-year-old boy leads the fight against their harmful operations. After the unfortunate death of his father, the boy decides to follow his father’s path, continuing the fight.

 

About the film being selected as Mongolia’s official entry for the award, director D.Byambasuren highlighted that it has been long since environmental issues have become a problem not only for locals, but also the entire planet.

 

This year, the shortlist for the International Feature category will include 15 feature films, which will be decided following the votes of Academy members on February 1-5. The nominations for the 93rd Academy Awards will be announced on March 15, with the award ceremony taking place on April 25 this year.
