Mercy Corps donate protective supplies against COVID-19

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. To support the Government of Mongolia in the fight against COVID-19, Mercy Corps has donated protective kits and supplies to the Local Emergency Management Departments of Mercy Corps’ seven target aimags: Bayan-Ulgii, Uvs, Khovd, Khentii, Selenge, Bulgan, and Sukhbaatar.


The ceremony of handing over the protective supplies and equipment to the LEMAs took place at the aimag centers between 3 and 9 February of 2021. This distribution included 2,000 face masks, 2,000 pairs of gloves, 100 sets of protective eyewear, 50 protective gowns, and 40 no-touch thermometers to each LEMA. 


In each aimag, the Head of LEMA, will allocate these resources to the public officials, soum Emergency Management Committees, inspection points, and border control areas most in need. Any remaining materials will be used in the fight against transboundary animal diseases (TADS) in collaboration with the General Authority for Veterinary Services (GAVS) after the COVID-19 crisis has passed. 


In addition to, Mercy Corps also distributed a total of 2,500 copies of a handbook called “Recommendations for Organizing DRR Activities” to the central office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). The NEMA began distributing these handbooks to the LEMAs of all 21 aimags, 9 districts and 173 sub-districts of Ulaanbaatar for use by local emergency management committees responsible for disaster risk assessments, planning, and training. 


The government officials and LEMA representatives expressed their gratitude to Mercy Corps for timely donation of needed materials and supply. Mercy Corps received the Letter of Appreciation from the governor of Bulgan aimag thanking the agency for supporting activities of the local emergency committee and LEMA to prevent and protect people of Bulgan aimag against the global pandemic.
