Over 300 entities joining ‘One billion trees’ nationwide campaign

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Some 320 organizations and entities of Mongolia have joined a ‘One billion trees’ nationwide campaign, initiated by the President of Mongolia, so far and planted trees in the ‘Nogoon Kherem’ grove, ‘Bayangol agro’, ‘Shine Nalaikh’ and ‘Bumbatiin Rashaan’ park.


Environment Department of the capital city and the Landscaping service of districts will be responsible for post-planting care of the trees at the above mentioned places where protected fences were installed. 


‘One billion trees’ nationwide campaign is expected to be implemented in three phases. The first phase or the preparatory phase will be taking place in 2021-2024, and the second or the intensification phase will be implemented in 2024-2026, while, the third or sustainable implementation phase is planned for 2027-2030.


About 77.8 percent of Mongolia's territory is affected by desertification and land degradation and within the campaign 120 million hectares of highly desertified land planned to be reduced by 4 percent and forest cover to be increased by 9 percent and greenhouse gas emissions to be reduced by 600,000 tons.
