Dr. Tedros A. Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, on Official Visit to Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, July 10 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of the Prime Minister of Mongolia L. Oyun-Erdnene, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), arrived in Mongolia for an Official Visit today. 

 

The official visit started with a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Health of Mongolia S. Chinzorig. During the meeting, they met with representatives of the health and emergency services sectors and exchanged opinions.

 

Then, the President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa received Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the State Palace. 

 

At the outset of the meeting, President U. Khurelsukh congratulated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the WHO and noted that the organization's support, assistance, and cooperation played an important role in overcoming the challenging period of the pandemic with minimum damage. Moreover, the President expressed his willingness to deepen the cooperation with the WHO within the scope of the interrelated national campaigns, namely Healthy Mongolian, One Billion Trees, and Food Supply and Safety, while affirming the support for the theme “Health For All” of the WHO.  

 

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros A. Ghebreyesus pointed out that, compared to other countries, Mongolia took prompt measures by immunizing its citizens in a short period and overcame the pandemic with less damage. He also praised Mongolia's efforts to create a healthy environment, strengthen the capacity of the health system, and fight against infectious and non-infectious diseases by investing more in the health sector.

 

As part of his official visit on July 10-12, the Director General of the WHO Dr. Tedros A. Ghebreyesus will pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister of Mongolia L. Oyun-Erdene, and meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs B. Battsetseg. Additionally, the Naadam Festival, a traditional national holiday that symbolizes Mongolia's independence and sovereignty and is listed in UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list, is also included in his agenda.
