Ulaanbaatar, October 8, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The autumn tree planting has started nationwide on October 5, 2024, for the seventh time since the launch of the “One Billion Trees” National Movement. President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa planted a tree at the “Nogoon Kherem” garden of the 326th Armed Forces Regiment in Songinokhairkhan district.

The Head of State noted that the “Nogoon Kherem” garden is an example of how effort leads to achievement and expressed confidence that Mongolians would continue to plant trees for centuries to come, making our country greener.

As part of the “One Billion Trees” National Movement preparations were made for three years, with large-scale tree planting operations to begin next year.

President Khurelsukh noted that three years ago, the garden was empty, and now it has over 36 thousand trees growing.

In 2024, a pest survey was conducted across 98 soums in 16 aimags, covering an area of 2.5 million hectares. The survey identified 490.4 thousand hectares as breeding grounds for pests. In 2023, pest control measures were implemented over 283 thousand hectares, increasing to 341 thousand hectares in 2024.

President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa issued a Decree to initiate the “One Billion Trees” National Movement on October 4, 2021, aiming at protecting Mother Earth and the environment, esteeming the Mongol tradition of harmoniously living with nature, reducing global climate change, safeguarding and replenishing the tree and water resources, and ensuring ecological balance.
