Draft Law on Reducing Air and Environmental Pollution in Ulaanbaatar to Be Submitted
PoliticsUlaanbaatar, January 8, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The draft Law on Reducing Air and Environmental Pollution in Ulaanbaatar was presented at the Cabinet session on January 8, 2025. The concept of the draft Law was approved and relevant officials were assigned to submit the draft immediately after gathering feedback from the Cabinet Ministers.
The draft Law aims to regulate
relations related to the establishment of special regime zones and other measures to protect the health of citizens, ensure citizens
live in a healthy and safe environment, and protect against environmental
pollution and loss of the balance of nature by reducing the negative impacts on
society and economy from air and environmental pollution in the Capital City.
According to the draft Law, the Capital City will have green and yellow zones to reduce air and environmental
pollution. The Governor of the Capital City shall decide on the establishment
and change of the boundaries and location of the zones.
The draft Law stipulates that
a number of activities will be prohibited in the green zone, including:
- burning of fuels and objects
other than gas and liquid fuels that meet standards; /all types of solid
fuels/
- using motor vehicles that
emit air pollutants exceeding the permitted levels by the standards, and selling
gasoline and diesel fuel to the owners and possessors of that vehicles;
- using groundwater for
domestic and industrial purposes in locations where it is possible to be connected
to engineering networks;
- using pit latrines and open
dumping of liquid waste;
- outdoor sale of auto parts
and all types of auto repair services;
- the recycling, incineration, landfilling of waste,
- establishing a hazardous waste collection point.
