Presidents of Mongolia and Turkmenistan Hold Official Talks

Ulaanbaatar, June 2, 2025 /MONTSAME/. At the invitation of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedow is paying a State Visit to Mongolia on June 1-2, 2025.
On June 2, 2025, the two Heads of State held official talks, reflecting on the achievements of the past 30 years of bilateral relations between Mongolia and Turkmenistan and discussing prospects and priority areas for enriching cooperation between the two countries with economic content.
President Khurelsukh expressed commitment to strengthening friendly relations with Central Asian countries, particularly Turkmenistan, and expanding cooperation between the two countries in all areas. The Head of State of Mongolia expressed confidence that the reciprocal State Visits by the Presidents of the two countries within one year would strengthen the friendship and peace between the peoples of Mongolia and Turkmenistan.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedow expressed delight in paying a State Visit to Mongolia for the first time and emphasized that the cooperation between the two countries has intensified in many areas since the State Visit of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa to Turkmenistan in 2024. The Head of State of Turkmenistan expressed satisfaction that the decisions reached during the State Visit of the President of Mongolia in Ashgabat last year are beginning to be translated into concrete actions.
The two Presidents agreed to strengthen the legal foundation of bilateral relations and actively cooperate in trade, economy, light industry, science, education, culture, and health, and commended the signing of intergovernmental and inter-agency agreements. The two sides highlighted that the establishment of the “Mongolia-Turkmenistan Intergovernmental Commission for Bilateral Cooperation” would serve as a mechanism to support mutually beneficial economic cooperation.
The two Heads of State underlined that the establishment of a Joint Committee on Road Transport to expand cooperation in transport and create a new logistics route, as well as the Joint Committee on Agriculture and the Joint Committee on Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry, would be vital in boosting fruitful cooperation. The two sides also agreed to implement joint projects and programs to increase trade turnover and diversify the range of export and import goods.
President Khurelsukh and President Serdar Berdimuhamedow decided to support collaboration between the universities and higher education institutions of the two countries, mutually provide scholarships for tertiary education students, prepare the workforce, and jointly organize cultural events. The two sides affirmed mutual commitment to support the initiatives and proposals put forward by the countries on the international and regional fora and actively collaborate within international organizations on protecting the environment, forests, and water resources, as well as combating climate change and desertification.
President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa expressed gratitude to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Bedrimuhamedow for joining the “Multilateral Agreement for the Establishment of an International Think Tank for Landlocked Developing Countries” initiated by Mongolia.
Also, the two sides agreed to cooperate further in overcoming the challenges faced by landlocked developing countries, formulating development policies, and sharing experiences.
