Ulaanbaatar Hosts Winter Festival 2026 at Sky Resort

Ulaanbaatar, January 31, 2026 /MONTSAME/. The Ulaanbaatar Winter Festival 2026 officially kicked off today. The festival is being organized with the aim of developing special-interest tourism, extending the tourism season, increasing the number of visitors to Ulaanbaatar during winter, and encouraging citizens to spend their leisure time in a healthy and meaningful way.


Through this festival, Mongolia’s scenic winter landscape, traditions, cultural heritage, national games, and customs are promoted, alongside emerging winter extreme sports and adventure tourism activities.


Now in its 14th year, the festival features the following competitions and events:

  • International Championship in Ice Archery, a traditional Mongolian sport
  • Ulaanbaatar City Ice Knucklebone Shooting Championship
  • Ulaanbaatar City Snowboarding Championship
  • Ulaanbaatar City Paragliding (Mountain Parachuting) Championship
  • Ulaanbaatar City Snow Rugby Championship
  • Ulaanbaatar City Alpine Skiing Championship
  • Ulaanbaatar City Curling Championship
  • Amateur Ice Wall Climbing Competition
  • Family Relay Race and Tug-of-War Competition
  • Grand Tour (Winter Cup) competition for tourism sector students

In addition, the festival includes national art performances, an educational program on the Mongolian Bankhar dog, ski and sledding activities, food services, as well as falconry and parachute demonstrations.


More than 1,000 athletes from Ulaanbaatar and all 21 aimags of Mongolia are participating, along with over 50 athletes from abroad, including China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Russia’s Buryatia, Kalmykia, and Tuva, as well as Kazakhstan and the United States.


The event is being jointly organized by the Ulaanbaatar City Governor’s Office, the Capital City Tourism Department, and the Sky Resort Complex, and is taking place this weekend at the Sky Resort Ski Center.
